Plant genes encoding metabolism of trehalose were discovered not so long ago. There are more and more of dates indicating on regulatory function of trehalose and trehalase in sugar sensing and signaling as well as in the control of assimilate allocation. Nevertheless the function of trehalose meta- bolism in plants is still not clear.
